Alcohol & Drug Safety Action Program (ADSAP)

The South Carolina Alcohol and Drug Safety Action Program (ADSAP) is a mandatory statewide education and treatment program designed to lower risk for individuals who are convicted of impaired driving related offenses.

This program utilizes the Prime for Life curriculum taught in a group setting which typically meets twice a week for 4 weeks. Participants will learn low-risk choices in order to protect the things they value most in their life. It is a highly interactive group that not only educates participants on low-risk choices for alcohol and other drugs of abuse but assists participants with developing a plan of action for making low-risk choices.

State law requires all South Carolinians who are convicted of one of the following:

  • Driving under the influence (DUI)
  • Boating under the Influence (BUI)
  • Implied Consent
  • Driving Unlawful Alcohol Concentration (DUAC)
  • .15 or greater
Individuals must successfully complete ADSAP before they can be eligible for relicensing by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. The ultimate goal of the program is to improve highway safety by providing assessment, education, and intervention and treatment services for DUI offenders in an effort to reduce their risk of committing another violation in the future.

To begin enrollment, schedule an appointment for an ADSAP assessment.

On the day of your first appointment please bring:

  • Picture ID
  • Paperwork received at the time of arrest
  • Recent 10-year Driving Record from the DMV
  • Reinstatement Requirement Letter from DMV
  • Documentation of any out of state DUI(s) pending or complete
  • List of current medications
  • Initial payment
At the assessment, it will be determined based upon the current charge, previous charges, and reinstatement requirements, if the individual will only need to complete the 16 hour Prime for Life program or need further treatment services. Additional treatment services may require additional fees as well.
